Ears not standing :(

My BT had finally gotten one of his ears to stand on it own...and about 2 days ago it flopped down again. He is almost 4 mos. now. Does this mean he will NOT have his ears up? :( I still think he looks cute but one thing that attracted me to the BT's were their ears. Has anyone ever have this happen to their BT?

Floppies
by: Shan

My Boston has floppy ears too and he is almost 2 years old. We tried taping them and they would stay up for a day and then flop again. His ear leather is quite heavy and so we just accepted that he's a floppy Boston lol. Most people mistake him for a baby boxer or pitbull. We never considered cropping as it seemed silly to cause him discomfort for cosmetic reasons. personally, I think our Boston looks adorable with floppy ears. Like a forever puppy.

Boston Spaniel ears
by: Anonymous

Moses had floppy ears and suddenly they both stood at at 4 1/2 months - one up one day, the other up a few days later. I wasn't sure what to expect because he is part Boston, part Cocker Spaniel and he could have traits of either of the two. 5 days before his 6 month birthday, one of the previously standing ears, flopped. Today, 2 weeks after his 6 month birthday, his second one flopped as well. Not sure if any of this is a coincidence, but he just lost one of his pointed canine teeth last week. Everything I've read says they go up, not down after teething. Maybe he still has more teeth to lose, but everything I see in his mouth looks like adult teeth. It will be interesting to see how they turn out!

The MAY not stand
by: Anonymous

Sooner's mom said they MAY not stand until later. It depends on the dog. One of our Bostons ears never stood up, and the other's stood up since we got him at six weeks.

ONE of the reasons they may not stand is if that particular dog is using calcium stores for teeth. In that case, the dog's ears may stand early, then one or both flop down for a while, then they may stiffen again.

In other cases (like one of our pups), the ears NEVER came up at all.

If having upright ears is of particular concern, you can look at taping them.

ears not standing:(
by: sooners mom

it was explained to me that a BT's ears may not stand erect as long as they are teething. They are using all of their calcium stores to make teeth until 6-9 monthes of age. Once they get done teething they will start storing calcium in their ears, which stiffens them and causes them to stand erect. Let's hope. My boy is is just shy of 5 months, and the right ear stands some days and some days it doesnt, and the left ear is LAZY!! :)

Sometimes it just takes alittle longer for the ears to stand they will stand up some days and then get floppy the next usually by 8 months they will stand up and start to feel stiff
