Frayed ears

My two year old boston has the same thing. I took her to the vet he said it appeared to be allergies he had me change her food to lamb only products and she takes Atopica 50mg daily it cleared it up. However, the Atopica is expensive so he said I could give her benadryl 1 to 2 mg per pound it helps.

Possible Zinc deficiency
by: Anonymous

We have had this problem with our now 7 month old male and our vet did some extensive checking. She believes he has something called zinc responsive dermatosis so he's on zinc tablets from the vet and it can take 2 months for his ears to get better. Apparently his body doesn't take in enough zinc from his food. His ears look like they are fraying on the edges and they have scabs he doesn't ever seem to be in pain, no mites fleas etc. I hope this is helpful maybe ask your vet about it at least!

My Boston has this, too!
by: sammy's mom

I just noticed this on my Boston's ears the other day. She isn't scratching them, they don't smell, and it's only on the tips of her ears. Was thinking of taking her to the vet. What exactly did your vet say your dog had?

Maybe flies are biting the ears... I have seen that before.. If so just keep them clean and use and antibiotic.. And def let the vet know about this.. Poor little baby

Crusty Ears

Sounds like he needs an antibiotic too. Maybe even vitamins to boost his immunity, you can get those online.
