Do BT's need to be leashed outside all of the time?

We're looking into getting a BT as our kiddos start getting older (4 years, 2 years, and 5 months now). We have a 3/4 fenced yard that leads into two neighbors yards. The neighbors wouldn't mind the dog in their yard any more than I mind their kids in mine ;). One of the neighbors has a small dog on a leash outside unattended pretty regularly.
Am I going to need to fence the rest of my yard? I refuse to have my dog constantly on a leash. I think that's mean because they need some time to run freely.

Your yard should be fenced in completely for a Boston. A Boston runs very fast and also can jump very high. It is more to keep your dog safe than anything else. I have many Bostons and they are trained on and off the leash. I will take mine to open places and let them off the leash.

With me saying that they are very well trained to come back on recall regardless what might be enticing them not to listen. I think the perfect solution is yes fence in your yard because as a puppy they have a mind of their own and will not listen until trained. The last thing you want is to fall in love your Boston and later when going through the teeange stages have him run off and not find him or worse be hit by a car. As you train him to come and he responds every time without fail you can let him off the leash in the appropiate places.
