Crate Training

My husband and I have a 14 week old boston terrier. we are trying to crate train him but he really doesnt like his crate. I was wondering if it is safe to give him a kong toy with peanut butter or something in it to sooth him? Is this suitable for a puppy his age?

Kong Toys
by: Mary

I have discovered that our BT's don't destroy their kongs. In fact they only play with it if there is peanut butter in there. You could toss it in the crate while you are there...maybe overnight...and see what he does with it. If at anytime the kong becomes torn or cracked then you couldn't trust that toy to stay in there. One thing I noticed is that if you keep the crate in your room they stay in there better and also if you keep the crate open during the day sometimes they go in there to "rest". After a while they may start to like the crate. Definitely put a nice soft blanket in there and maybe one of your old dirty (not washed) shirts because that will have your scent on it.

Good luck and remember...YOU are the boss and if you want your puppy in there he HAS to go in there. After a while he will submit to it.
