My boxer and boston seem a perfect mix by: Anonymous
I agree with one of the other posters...a gentle bigger breed is a good match. The boxer I have could kick my boston's butt...yet she tolerates and sometimes enjoys the rough play they get to have together. A boston is big dog attitude in a small dog body :)

My mom has 3 female Boston's they started fighting and I lost the end of my finger. It got bit off breaking the Boston's up. My male was raised with other dogs and he is not friendly with any dog. I love there personality but will never own another one. He hates all males and some females.

Compatability by: Anonymous
I think it depends on your pooch. Our girl loves all types of dogs. We also have a male Jack Russell and they love each other. She is 1 and the J.R. is 6.She is also around large dogs all the time and is fine. If you are thinking of getting another type of dog try a Pug. They are very low maintinace and are a great companion for a Boston. My opinion

Our Experience with Socialization by: Anonymous
I have a 13-month old male Boston that we rescued at 8 months, and I was worried that he was never socialized with other dogs. Once we addressed his behavior issues inside the home (all driven by his excited/dominant personality), I decided it was time to see how he would do with some friends of his own. Because I was nervous about the introduction and did not want that to project to my dog, I decided to take him to a doggie day-care. My fears were relieved when I picked him and got his "report card". He now goes once a week and plays with dogs of all sizes, breeds and dispositions. It's important that he socialize with a variety so he does not become too dominant or too submissive.

My new pup and her big sis! by: MrTroyHouse
We have a 16 month old Great Dane named "Heffy" and she just got a new 10 week old boston terrier named "Gimlet" for her new little sister. It's been 3 days, so far so good. It is very cool to watch them get used to each other and to watch my big girl be so nice. We'll keep you all updated on there progress and maybe post a few pics.

My male seems to get along with females but seems aggressive with all males. He is neutered. He grew up with a larger happy boxer which he started fighting. So we removed him. Now I bottle raised a male Boston puppy and this morning he just jumped on him. I'm at Witt's end. My mother has 3 Boston females now they all fight and have to stay seperated. I actually got the end of my finger bit off over breaking them up.

Any larger breed by: Joe
IMO, Bostons get along better with larger breeds, as they think and play like they're a big dog. They usually play too rough for smaller breeds. Bostons generally get along great with big, playful (but gentle) breeds like labs and boxers.
Just make sure it's a breed that's big enough to handle the Boston's aggressive play without being scared (remember that Boston's are quite stocky and solid, and pound for pound will out-bully another small breed), yet tolerant enough to not get angry at their persistence to want to be in the face of the other dog all of the time. Usually a second Boston is the best answer. :P
I know many people have had success with Mastiffs as well, because they are a breed that's more than big enough to handle the Boston's aggressive play style, but gentle enough not to hurt them.

Dogs best friends by: Mary
+ Our Boston will get along with any friendly dog...so you have a great big list. It's probably easier to list who they might not get along with...any dog that does not like to play alot...maybe an introverted Chihuahua, Chow, Dalmation...etc. Any of these breeds also has a friendly side...so if you are getting a new puppy to spend time with your already owned Boston...you should have it made because the puppy should be easy to train to get along...just look at the puppy's parents...are they friendly? Chances are that the puppy will be also. P.S. our females tend to like smaller dogs and our male likes the bigger ones. If you are rescuing another dog...then take the Boston with you and see how they react. Also...give it some time. It takes time for any dog to "warm up".

Compatibality by: Linda Galway/TurnerME
Bostons, in general, get along with other dogs, so I would think any good-natured dog will do. My Bostons were best friends with a 110-lb. Shepherd/Lab/Bloodhound/Rottie mix... Happy dogs get along best with happy dogs. Make sure to introduce them on neutral territory, and everything should go well. Treats should be offered to both, so they associate each other with a happy moment. Good luck.

Other Breeds by: Jen
Only in my experience, my puppy is very energetic but I take him everywhere so he has been around many different dogs. The only one he had a problem with was a jack russell/beagle mix. He has been fine with a Pitbull, West Highland Terrier, Pug, and a black lab.
