Cloudy Whitish Blue Eye

My BT is 11 years old and basically pretty healthy. His right eye, however, has become a very cloudy whitish color and it seems to be permanent. The vet said it was not cataracts. We think he may now be blind in that eye, but aren't sure. The vet also gave us an antibiotic ointment that didn't seem to make any difference. Basically, the vet doesn't seem to know what is what with his eye and suggested we take him to university vet hospital an hour and a half away. I just don't have thousands of dollars to spend on that. Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem?

Mucus

I noticed that my nine month old Boston had what looked to be mucus on his eye. I touched his eye with my finger but the spot wouldn't move. It was white, only one spot, and on top of the pupil. Any ideas?

Yes. We've had 2 Bostons with cataracts and glaucoma. If you can, I would at least see the specialist to find out what it is if it's not cataracts. It sure sounds like it. Another possibility is glaucoma and that is very painful for them and causes blindness. It is also expensive to treat. It shouldn't cost thousands to find out what it is and then you can decide if you can do anything for him. When our girl's glaucoma could not be controlled our local vet removed the eye and she felt so much better and adapted well. The cost wasn't all that bad. Good luck to you and your buddy.
