Can periodontal disease be the answer to my little girls sad face?

Hello ;) My husband and I just recently adopted a boston who needed a good home ;) We are SO in love with her, and we want to make her the happiest little girl in the world. She is seven years old, and came to us with pretty bad periodontal disease. We have visited our vet, and she will be having surgery very soon to remove the bad teeth, and get the rest cleaned.

In the mean time, I am wondering if this could affect her emotionally. She doesn't seem to want too much but sleep ;( We are doing everything we can to get her active and playing. She likes her walks, when it's not raining, but at home she won't even touch her toys. Are we bad parents? Maybe she just needs more time to adjust? I just want our little girl to be happy, and she seems so sad sometimes. Any advice to a new mom?

Sad Face

Bostons are very emotional creatures. They are very sensitive, and they are easily emotionally hurt. After her periodontal surgery, when she is getting better, and doesn't have anymore pain, you will see that she knows what you did for her helped. Be patient with her, if she came from an abusive home she will be skittish. She will learn to trust again. Try talking to her in a very low, calm voice telling her that all you do for her is only to make her life better. I swear they are "human" they understand everything you say. Watch her observe her about what she likes, playing, rolling on her back, pulling herself across the floor with hind legs down on the floor etc. She will learn to love and trust again, they are very forgiving children.

You may want to think in terms of BT's being toddlers. They think, they understand, they are thick headed, naughty etc. and like a child you just LOVE them.
Regards, Christine
