Can a Boston terrier get pregnant before their first cycle?

My Boston terrier Lucy will be a year old in 24 days. When she was six months old she was very sick. She had parasites eating the lining of her stomach. She couldn't keep any food or water down. The vet told us that she was so dehydrated that she more than likely would not be able to have a cycle until she was a year old. She still hasn't started her first cycle. We have a male Boston terrier mikey that is only eight months old, who has a very strong sex drive already! We haven't seen them actually mate, but we have seen mikey try.

Lucy, who is normally very hyper, has become lathargic and lazy, almost with a sad look on her face :( she is eating a lot more, has gained weight, and has started having morning sickness. Today, we can feel three small bumps in her stomach that move often. However, her teats aren't growing and her vagina is swollen as if she is going to start her cycle soon.
Is it possible that should could be pregnant? We know it's a long shot that she is, but if it is we want to prepare for a c-section if necessary because she is a miniature.

My Boston gets pretty weird right before "Her time". She loses her appetite and becomes mopey. It is very similar to when she gets pregnant. Perhaps your bt's cycle has crept up on you and she is pregnant. A vet can tell you for sure, but you may need to wait until the 22nd to the 24th day of fertilization. It will be a bit of a guess when "It" happened, but you can sort of guess. It will really be a waiting game for you.

Really, you should not mate the two until they are both almost 2 yrs old, so for now keep them apart. I know how hard that is, but in my family we have four of us and we split the time between family members. It is very hard but a crate helps and closing doors to rooms helps too.

Hopefully she is NOT pregnant and you can keep them apart for now. My female's cycle did not start until she was about 10 months old. If your female is "swollen" then it is definitely about to start or has started. If you have ever had your two together when you were not present, then they could have "done it" without your knowledge. I don't know about the lumps you feel in her belly, but you usually can't tell until day 20 or so. I never can feel the pups, but a trained vet sure can.

For now you should treat your female as if she IS pregnant just in case. Do some research online about pregnant dogs and get yourself ready. She needs proper attention and care. She will need special food, no live vacines, good exercise etc.

Be sure to read the "Pregnancy Timeline" and the "Raising Puppies Timeline".

Good luck to you and BE PREPARED!
