Hi Bruce! I have a 13 and a half year old Boston Terrier and over the last couple of years his eyes have turned red. I noticed it more after he's been outside especially when there's a lot of pollen or in the fall when the leaves have fallen. My veterinarian told me he was hypersensitive to the environment. He said Bostons don't have good "windshield wipers"! He prescribed an eye ointment with a steroid in it which you can also get in drop form which is easier to apply. However, my Boston now has cataracts and I took him to an ophthalmologist. I was told by him that his eyes aren't red because of hypersensitivity but because of the cataracts which can contribute to inflammation. He prescribed the same eye drops as my vet had prescribed. (I think both doctors are right and that the redness is from both situations.) When Joe was young as your Boston is now, he had to have his eye lids operated on because they folded in and his lashes were causing irritation. This is common in Bostons. So make sure this isn't the problem. The surgery was "easy" and successful. Good luck with you baby. Don't you just them!!! Best dogs ever!

We have 3 Bostons and from time to time (especially when they are tired) they're eyes look bloodshot. That's when we put them down for a "nap". But when they wake up, they are not bloodshot anymore. If your puppy's eyes are bloodshot all the time, it could be several things: infection, injury, disease. If he just has an infection, you can get eye drops from the vet. An injury should heal, but see the vet in case he wants to give you some kind of medication.

As far as disease, the vet will definitely need to handle that. Out of our three Bostons, none have had blood shot eyes for more than a day. Sometimes they are very wet and the vet said that sometimes the little hairs around the eye irritate it. This is a Boston trait. If it is a hair and it is constantly irritated, they can cut the hair, but I wouldn't try that myself. If your dog's eyes are watering, have any kind of discharge or smell, see the vet as soon as possible.
