I have an 8 year old male Boston Terrier that has had allergies since he was a puppy. The vet put him on predezone, with brought on diabetis. Now he is scratching constantly to where he makes himself bleed, especially his ears. He is also on the prescription food I/W from Hills Science Diet. I have tried all the allergy medications the vet has suggested, but nothing has helped him. I know his food contains corn, so would it be safe to feed him cooked chicken only. I NEED HELP!

Allergies

Have you ever checked into alternative therapies, such as Homeopathic, Omega 3 & 6 EFA's. Go online and Google ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES FOR DOGS, CATS, etc., and see what you find out and think about it.

I had a Dog that a Vet put on Prednisone for a long time, even though I kept asking if the dog should be taking that medicine continually. I was told it was OK that animals were'nt like humans and steroids did not affect them like they do us.

To make a long story short, when I finally changed Vets, the new Vet weaned my dog off the Prednisone very slowly to prevent Adrenal Gland failure. It was too late the damage was done and I had to put my baby down.

Prednisone is OK for short term therapy, but never, never, never keep a pet on it long term.

Sure hope this info helps with treatment of your baby. GOOD LUCK!

Itchy Buddy

I'm no expert, but if your pup is still having a lot of itching problems and you're not having any satisfaction from your vet, go to someone else for a second opinion. It could be a host of issues that are not being addressed. You are correct that it could be the corn or grain in the food, but some dogs are also allergic to chicken--and lots of other things. It could be another allergy, but you won't know what it is if you don't take steps to find out. I have two BTs, and one of them is a very itchy girl. I've changed her food A LOT over the last two years, and now I feed her Darwin's raw food, and it does not contain grains, but it does contain about 30% vegetables and fruits. The other 70% is meat (including organ meats and ground up bones). I buy almost exclusively the beef and bison, and once in awhile I'll buy a pack of turkey. She is still itchy now and then, but nothing like she was. Maybe it will work for you. Good luck!
