Bubba (our 13 year old) Boston

by Kristy Dickinson

Bubba has a heart condition and is a little on the older side, he sleeps a lot during the day, and whines as if he is really sick later in the afternoon. The whining sounds very dramatic and I'm not sure if that is a characteristic of boston's or if it might be due to his illness. He is especially uncomfortable after walks and after he eats. Should we take him to the vet or is this maybe just something we need to get used to. Does anyone have a Boston that is still living after 13 years?

Take him to the vet

Yes it might be something you can take care of. I would hate to think he is in pain, also ask the doctor if you should walk him and how long since he cries after the walk. My dogs father was 14 when she was born and going strong. He lived to be 16, but I think 15 is the norm.
GOOD LUCK

If he is in pain, then you really must take him to the vet's, because it could be a situation that is fixable. The vet should be able to give you a prognosis, and from there, you can make any decisions you need to make, but it certainly is difficult without having an expert's opinion. So glad you've had your Boston for so many wonderful years. Good Luck.

old Boston

Our Boston Terrier Fiona lived to be 15 1/2 years old. If she hadn't had some kind of serious liver problem she might have lived quite a bit longer. Hard to say whether Bubba's whining is due to his heart condition, or something else that the vet could help with. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.
