frothy spit up
by: Jeannette

My BT does this all the time! It is so annoying because it frequently happens on the furniture or when some unexpecting stranger goes to pet him! Our vet said it is GERD but offered no treatment for it. If any knows of a treatment I would love to hear it.

A kind of acid reflux
by: garth owner

My BT is about 10 months old now and has developed a kind of morning sickness - he seems to be regurgitating and gagging most mornings.
I have changed from giving a big meal at night time now and fed him Manuka honey about 15 mins before eating his dinner. This seems to have helped him. It appears to be a kind of acid reflux although he is still keen to eat at any time of day and in great spirits at all other times - apart from these morning attacks

7 months old and belching up froth when excited
by: Steve

Hello,
We got our Boston at three months, and for 2 months she was fine. At 5 months, she started to belch up huge ammounts of white froth with mucus in it. This only seems to happen when she gets excited, or during/ after a walk. At home she will race arround leaping and jumping when playing fetch or tug untill she is panting heavily with no ill effects. If visitors call she gets excited and will throw up within minites. She does not wear a collar.
The vet has now been treating her for 8 weeks - 4 types of medication administered in 13 doses each day at a cost so far of £630.00
She has now been refered to a Vet university training hospital.
Will update if they can do anything besides charge a large fee.

Phlem

Our BT's used to do that alot more too. I think as they get older they grow out of it. But still, every once in a while they cough it up. Usually they have been overheated, or have eaten something that needs to come "up" instead of "out" if you know what I mean. I have found some interesting things I didn't even know we had in that coughed up mess. We asked our vet about it but it just wasn't bad enough to do anything about. He never suggested steroids. If you read about the BTs online, it says that their snouts are so much shorter than other dogs and they don't have enough room to do what needs to be done so they cough it up. You have to make sure they don't get overheated, which they can even to in the cold winter while they are running around like Bostons like to do. I break up the "playtime" of our Bostons with a little petting time, or treat time and get them to settle down about every 10 minutes or so. They would probably play until they dropped!

Hopefully your BT is still young and it will subside over time, but definitely keep in close communication with your vet.

Good Luck and let us know what happens.

frothy

If it's yellow, you're not alone. Several of us experience this sporadically. In my case, I think it's a bit of a nervous reaction to what's going on, like a car ride, but otherwise, can find no etiology for it. Let us know if you get a diagnosis.
