Pee pad

My Boston was pad trained also. He would aim at the edge of the pad so 90% of the time, it would spill over. I have him in a large crate with a pad for emergency and I think sometimes when he gets bored, he would tear it to pieces and make a mess. The pads were always cleaned when he tears them apart, never dirty. He avoid his own pee & poop. Give your dog something to entertain him/her and maybe they'll leave the pad alone. I ended up removing the pads altogether because he only used it twice in the year that I left it in his crate. Good luck with deterring your dog from playing with its own poop.

Try crate training...
by: Anonymous

It's really difficult to train a puppy when you need to leave them alone for long times while you are at work. Been there, done that. Our best solution has been to put them ours in a crate that's large enough that she can move around but not too big or she will have the room to pee in her cage. They are very territorial and don't want to dirty their crate. We also place a pair of old socks, tied into knots, into her crate with her. She can chew on that without getting pieces off like she has done with most dog toys.

We use the crate whenever we need to leave the house....even if it's just for a few minutes. All we have to do is say...."Want a cookie" and she heads for her crate....because we NEVER use the cage for "Punishment" and NEVER fuss her when we are placing her in there, she thinks it's fun to get praised and go into her crate, especially when she is going to get a treat.

We have crated our last four dogs and it really does work. Getting upset when they destroy everything doesn't seem to work at all. Positive reinforcement with the crate training seems to work much better. She probably won't be happy with the crate at first since she is already 5 months old. Good luck!!

Pee Pads

If you do not want to try crate-training then try leaving a ton of toys to play with in an area as far away as the pee pad as possible. Also, put something to tear up like an old towel or rag.

You can read online about potty training...there is a lot of information out there. Try everything and be patient. Ours finally were trained completely at 2 years old!
