My boston, Peter, hates water. He becomes terrified and he cant move if his feet are not touching something when he is in water. He is okay with baths but my pool he hates. I try to get him in beacause 1) he's overweight and 2) I always wanted to swim with a dog, but I'm not going to force him in - just baby steps.

My Boston female loves to swim she swims underwater, but she hates a bath. She didn't like water at first but I kept trying now I can't keep her out.

Water by: Danielle
My female boston loves the water. We keep a kiddie pool in the yard and she goes in to cool down when she gets warm.

Splashing Jasper by: Anonymous
Our 9 Month old Boston Terrier wanted nothing to do with the water and cried on the shore when we swam. I started to walk in the shallow water and he became interested in the splashes my feet made. I began walking deeper in the water and he followed and eventually began swimming. He always needs a toy to lure him into the water. We recently brought him to the ocean and he loved going after the big waves. He would run in and out of the ocean following the waves coming and going. Try baby steps like splashes to turn your boston terrier into a bathing beauty!

BT and water by: Ziva's Mom
My little girl hates the pool or any type of water, and I was hoping she would want to get in the pool, but no. So not all BT like water, you are one of the lucky ones. I will just let littl Ziva do the sum bathing, or watching TV in the AC while were in the pool :)

Our Boston and Water by: Patrick from Tennessee
Our 2 year old Boston Terrier loves to play with our children in our inground pool. He climbs the ladder out on his own and can climb onto floating rafts by himself. We are careful to keep an eye on him as he wants to swim so much we think he may tire and sink to the bottom. We have heard most BT's do not like water and when ours went absolutely nuts over it, we were very surprised. We did find out the very first time that the pads on his feet got torn and cracked on the concrete around the pool along with the softening of the water. For 2 days after he limped around. Now we make sure we rub some lotion on the pads after his water adventures and that seems to do the trick.

Swimming BT'S by: Annie
My first BT really surprised me. I got him from the local animal shelter when he was about two. The first time I took him for a walk near the water he immediately wanted to jump in. Over the years I have called him my "swimmer dog". I took him to the lake weekly for his swim and while on the boat I had to make sure he had his life jacket on. There were times that I worried that he would swim to the point of no return. Remember the life jacket if your BT likes the water. I got my second BT three months ago from a rescue group and so far haven't had him near the water. I too would like to know if they are naturally water dogs. It seems most unlikely to me. Please someone let me know also.
