Boston Terrier won't "come" when called

Male boston, have had him since age 9 weeks, and will only come if I'm in the kitchen and have food in hand. Otherwise, he runs from me and it's actually embarrassing. Nothing works and I have been trying for months! Will he settle down when he gets older? His "brother" is a one year old very friendly rottweiller, and we have 5 kids in the home ages 5 years to eleven years. Thanks!

Come!

We had a female that did that too. We got her when she was 4 months old. She now will come when we call but we call her just a little differently. We have to use our "nice" voice...a little higher in pitch...and we crouch down instead of standing and put our hand out with the palm side up and bring the fingers up and down (like a child saying gimme).

I would say that it took her about 6 months or so before she would "trust" us. She still runs when someone moves too suddenly or she thinks something is about to fall on her and she runs when there is a very loud noise. I am not sure if she was abused before we got her but I really do not think she was. I think that she just has a very sensitive personality and perhaps she was not around people as much as she is now. Each dog of ours acts a little differently. I think you just have to let them know who is boss, but you don't have to be brutal about it.
