Boston Terrier with Very Runny Nose

My boyfriend the monkey!

My boyfriend the monkey!

My baby girl Peyton (5 months old) had a runny nose, nasty cough, and was sleeping more than usual. In addition she had a red rash that covered her entire belly.

I took her to the vet and they put her on antibiotics for the rash and said that it was possibly caused from the kiddie pool at the dog park because water holds bacteria and they probably aren't cleaned properly. They said that her "cold" could be caused from the infection as well.

She has been on the antibiotics for 3 days now and her rash has cleared up a little, however her runny nose is out of control. It used to be clear and runny and it would only run a little bit after she woke up in the morning and woke up from naps. Now it has turned to a green mucous and her nose is running almost constantly. She is sneezing and miserable and I don't know what to do.

I called the vet about the runny nose yesterday and they told me to give her benadryl 2 times a day for the runny nose and it should clear her right up. It hasn't made a bit of difference. Every day it seems to get worse.

I am calling the vet tomorrow but since it's Sunday I thought I would look around and see what advice people may have.

NOTES: Her behavior, besides sleeping more than normal, is still the same. She still plays with her toys, runs around, eats on schedule, and is drinking often.

How much benadryl (dose) did they tell you to administer? I have a Boston and he is having the same issue with the runny nose.

I'm glad you'll be calling the vet back tomorrow. If the discharge is turning green, then there's some kind of infection there that the vet should check out.

In the meantime, I'd keep on with the Benadryl as directed and try to keep her as comfortable as possible. Sounds like it could be some kind of allergies with rash, runny nose & sneezing... Let us know what the vet determines - allergies, cold, etc.? And, let us know how she's doing.

p.s., she's just adorable!
