We rescued a 2 year old Boston, he gets along well with our 2 cats but... when he is around other dogs he goes for their throats. Indoor or outdoor, any suggestions? Really limits our contact with other dogs. We always had labs or goldenseal so this is a huge shock for us. Otherwise he is great around people and kids too.

Your new? Boston by: Anonymous
If you socialize your new Boston, you will be fine. We brought ours into a home of 3 large dogs, and after a bit of butt sniffing, and posturing they were fine. "Booger" just ignores them now (except for the butt sniffing). The real problem that we have is with our cat, he beats the tar out of the bostie, and we can't seem to stop it. Booger sees the cat with "that look" in his eye and he's gone. He will hold his own with a dog...but is butter when it comes to that cat. Go figure.

Buggy about Bostons..............s by: Laurel
I have a Bugg and she gets along with 2 other dogs one of who is twice her size and the other who is a 1/4 her size as well as 2 cats. If you raise them to respect other animals and set out clear rules and boundaries you should have no problem. You also have to do the same with the other animals. My one cat was not very dog friendly until I said enough was enough when he went to attack my smallest puppy. Now when he thinks no one is looking I have seen him rubbing up against the dogs.
So you are the leader forge ahead and tell the others and the newest member what you expect and it will happen.
Good luck and enjoy.

One Big Happy Family by: Christine
Ollie, our BT, lives with a Boarder Collie, an Italian Greyhound, a Cockapoo, and a cat. They all play and get along fine. I wouldn't trust any one of these guys with a bird. They all like chicken too much!

It just depends... by: Kathleen
We have 2 Bostons (a male & a female), a female French Bulldog and 2 indoor, litter-trained rabbits. The male Boston and the Frenchie couldn't care less about the rabbits, but our female Boston starts shaking like crazy if she gets into the same room with the bunnies (we keep them separated, of course). All the dogs get along fine together.
I think it just depends on all the personalities involved. I think Bostons can get along fine with other pets - both our Bostons get along fine with my mom's 4 pomeranians and my grandparents 2 dachsunds, but we never leave them together unsupervised.
