Hello, I have a 4 year old Boston, Dexter. We got him about a month ago from a rescue- the shelter was giving him Pedigree dog food- I changed him immedately to NutroMax -He has very lose stool- I first assumed it was from him stealing cat food (which I moved right away), but it has not subsided. After doing more reserch I just recently changed him to EVO brand. He is very playful and does act sick, just weird that he has constant loose stool. Is this normal? I know that some dogs can have loose stool when they get too much protein, a bit conerned that the EVO will make it worse? Any advice?
The problem with food like Blue Buffalo is that they are higher in protein which can cause loose stools in Boston Terriers. Our puppies are on Nutro Natural choice Small Breed Puppy food and it has made a lot of difference. They were on other high protein diets like Blue Buffalo but their stomachs could not handle it. It would try a food with more balance and less protein. We originally tried a limited diet but sometimes it is just finding the right mix of protein to fiber.

6 yr old Boston Terrier by: Anonymous
I also have rescued a Boston Terrier and the vet said to give him boiled chicken (to take out the fat) and white rice and she gave me some Probiotics FortiFlora to put the good bacteria back into his system. I can say that after 3 doses his poop is starting to take on a good shape and is no longer runny.

NutroMax not good food for Bostons? by: Anonymous
I also have a 4 year old Boston girl, rescued. She was on Science Diet at the shelter, we immediately started a mix of Science Diet and Nutromax until we went only to Nutromax. She's been on 100% NutroMax for a few weeks with constant loose stool. I was thinking we were doing the right thing with Nutro Max, and it only has 9% fiber versus 14% in Science Diet, so I thought we were being more nutricious. Is it this brand of food? If so, what should be switch to? Are Bostons sensitive to the corn?

Switch to Better food by: Anonymous
Hamburger and rice is not a good diet for dogs. Dog food has many other added beneficial ingredients than dogs need to live a healthy life.
He could have a sensitive stomach or (depending on when you switched him) be "detoxing" from Pedigree, since it is such a horrible dog food.
The only foods I would EVER feed my dog are:
Castor and Pollux Organix Natural Balance Blue Buffalo
Good luck & hope it helps!

My boston pitbull terrior did the same thing and a friend told me to fix him hamburger and rice. Maybe some cheese once in a while the hamburger and rice does wonders for dogs
