Boston Terrier Slipped Disks

we've just gotten our dog back from the animal hospital after a two day stint. we had to rush him in after hours on tuesday night after he went running in the backyard after a cat then yelped loudly and then he was dragging his hind legs after him. the vet said that he had two disks that were slipped, but not all the way. we've got him on pain meds, prednisone, and a muscle relaxant to see if this helps him any. he is already able to walk again, but one of his hind feet still trips him up and he's still pretty hunched over.

has anyone had a similar experience with their boston? is the 'bed'rest and steroids helpful? we are having a financial crisis right now and could not possibly afford the 5 thousand dollar surgery needed if he has severe/permanent neurological damage. i'm afraid his quality of life will not be very good if we have to keep him on these meds for a long period of time, especially if they aren't going to help him improve.

My daschund had same thing
by: Anonymous

I have a daschund and a boston terrier and before I got my boston terrier my daschund experienced the same thing. daschunds are notorious for this. I didn't have a lot of money it was 60.00 for steroids and after 3-weeks of babying she's up and running and wrestling with junior my boston. Some of the websites I've read also recommend glucosimine in their water so I do that along with pain meds when she needs it
