I had a 6 year old BT and I just got a 6 mo old... My 6 year old would have this happen to him when he would lay in the sun but inside the windows where there is no radiation or risk of sun damage... So I think it's a heat thing and not necessarily a sunburn... Which would also explain why it happens when he's playing... It happens on the white parts of their bodies where the skin color affects the pigmentation so is easier to see... It could be happening all over their bodies we just cannot see through the black fur... =)

Red muzzle and belly by: Anonymous
my 8 month bt, seabass, also gets a red muzzle and red belly afer he has been playing a lot or running through the bush - i have been thinking it is just irritation on sensitive, hairless skin reacting to the situation...it usually clears up within 24 hours.

SUNBURN by: Anonymous
Boston terriers need to be protected from the sun. They sunburn easy.

"situational skin" redness similar to that in people by: Anonymous
my BT girl, Pandora, is approximately 5 yrs old but i adopted her just about a month ago. this has happened once since i got her, in a very specific situation: we were at petsmart and she saw a baby BT and they both went crazy. while they were interacting, i noticed that Pandora's lip and neck were getting quite pink--and also the whites of her eyes looked bloodshot. i thought that maybe the puppy scratched her as he was wild and allover her, and since Pandora is blind in one eye, i was concerned and disengaged. we quickly paid for our items and when in the car, i checked her more carefully. the pinkness was less intense and then was completely gone in another 5 minutes or so.
my assessment was that this was a temporary, "emotional" or situational occurrance similar to what can happen to people, i.e, like a sexual flush or what happens to some very fair skinned people when they are extremely agitated. don't tell her i told you, but when my mother is extremely upset, she gets red splotches on her face and neck that go away as soon as she calms down...
my two cents... good luck and please let me know if you find a definitive answer.

My Boston Terrier turns red, also. by: Marie
My boston terrier's muzzle, neck and stomach will turn red, especially when he is playing or running, and having a good time. He entire body will be very hot, but he is fine. I just think it is the make up of the Boston Terrier. At first it worried me, but now, he is 5 months old and is growing like a little weed. His name is Buster Henri Brown. He is adorable.
