My Boston Terrier Theonia always runs away when you open the gate. I have to lure back home with food or she will keep running. I also can not potty train her she is very hyper. I have one acre and she runs and jumps all day - jumps hurdles over my English bulldog who is lazy.

Bolt (er)

I have a bolter also! She "bolts" when we open the door. There is a way to train them...usually using food. You have to teach them the "Stay" command. Then every time you go to the door you tell her to "come"...then "Sit". (That's where the food comes in-you give her a treat each time she obeys) Then you open the door and YOU ALWAYS GO OUT FIRST. We are still working on that. In the meantime...when she does bolt I do not run after her. I say in a real deep tone "Come, Bridgette!" She does a lot of running around but always has her eye on me. Then I run to the front door and she runs after me and we both run inside. We still have a lot of training to do but it takes time and diligence. We can't go outside (the front) without a collar and leash until she gets completely trained. She still sneaks by some legs every once and a while!
