Boston Terrier Red Eye & Cornea Cloudy

We have a 5 month old BT who woke up Sunday morning with a red eye and a cloudiness to his cornea. The vet saw him and without much examination started on a rant about how bad BT's eyes are known to be. She then indicated I should take my guy to an opthalmologist! My thought is he was scratched by the cat or had a run-in with the Christmas tree. Any suggestions? We did manage to get some drops from the vet...Tobrymycin.
