Boston Terrier Questions

Questions:
1. I've heard from other websites that Boston Terriers don't live as long as other dogs. Is that true? And, how long can Boston Terriers live?

2. Plus, I've heard that dog food companies put dead dog cats and zoo animals in commercial dog food. Is Pedigree a commercial dog food?

Sorry about how many questions there are - I'm just worried about my Boston Terrier, Piper.

Answers:
Thanks for writing in.
1. Life expectancy can vary from breed to breed. Boston Terriers usually live from 10 to 14 years. Feeding him a good food, keeping him healthy and getting enough exercise will maximize his life span. Here's a link to a page with more frequently asked questions and answers that you might find helpful.

2. The term "commercial dog food" just means that it is sold in a store, so yes, Pedigree is a commercial dog food. There are some companies that unfortunately DO put the remains of dead animals in their food, but not all commercial dog food companies do this. There are some very good commercial dog foods available.

Check out the information at this page on our site about dog food ingredients. The information there will tell you what to look for in a dog food and what to avoid. There is also a list of dog foods that have been evaluated for their ingredients.

Hope this helps! Our best to you and Piper.

Spaying complications?
by: Roxi's mom

I just had our 4 yr old Boston spayed 4 days ago and she is still not doing well. She has barely eaten and we have had to spoon feed her water. I took her back to the vet today. She is not dehydrated or running a fever. She has thrown up at least once a day since the spaying and had 3 tiny very loose bowel movements and has no control over her bladder. Today's vomiting was lots of green bile. We left her overnight but the vet still had not given her any antibiotics, only a steroid shot, anti-parasite shot and something for nasuea. Just looking for some answers from anyone who has had their Boston spayed as to what could be wrong.

Bston Terrier Bob
by: Anonymous

Bob is our Boston Terrier and he is 8 in human years and 56 in dog years. He may be old but he still jumps around and chases his toys. He is the best little dog in the world. He's not beefy like some Bostons but he is tuff. We love him to death and joke around that he's immortal.

stranger than anything right now
by: Anonymous

My dog is acting strange. First, he doesn't want to run around anymore. Then,he doesn't want to walk either. I know that he is only 6 years old and that is still young and healthy, but does anyone here know the answer to stop this.

Boston Terrier Leaky Butt
by: Scott

We just rescued a 1 1/2 year old Boston named Bella. She has only been with us for 1 day. We have been finding small very light brown drops of fluid coming from her butt. The drops are on the floor , crate and her bed. It doesnt smell like stool.

Any suggestions?
