BooBoo

My cousin and his daughter have an 11 yr old Boston terrier. She was a very active and happy go lucky dog until recently. In the past month she has changed drastically.
It began when she got a kind of infection in the form of a bump on the left side of her lower jaw. We just gave her some prednison 5 mg. thinking that it was a bug bite or something. When the bump went away we slowly stop the medicine. As soon as we stopped the medicine she would just be standing there yelping in pain for no reason, no one would even be touching her. Then she just became lethargic and unresponsive. My aunt and 2nd cousin took her to the first vet and they couldn't find anything wrong with her. Then the next day she was worse so we took her to a different vet and they did blood work and found that she had an infection somewhere but could not find where it was. They prescribed her Clavamox and told us to continue with the prednison. That same day after we started the medicine she was right back to life and just fine. We went through the medicine and everyday she was fine but as soon as we stopped the medicine she had what was like a seizure.
She just went out and collapsed then she was trying to get up and she couldn't her paws were flailing and when she finally got up she threw up. My aunt took her to the animal hospital and they put her on Baytril but they still didn't know what was going on with her. The same day she was up and fine and perfect. yesterday and this morning she was fine. But then now she is on our couch with a swollen neck and every time she eats she yelps and she cant get up right. She even peed on herself trying to get off the couch. Her eyes are also swollen.

Please i need to know if anyone knows whats going on because if we don't find out she is going to be put down and I know that my cousin and his daughter would be heart broken if something happened to her considering they have had her 10 of her 11 years.

Find A Specialist
by: Chris

I looked up some of the symptoms your dog has. I am not a vet, so the best I can give you is a guess after reading some books.
Your dog might have a post-tonsillar abscess or retrobulbar abscess. Head and neck swellings come on suddenly affecting the throat, soft tissues beneath the chin, said of the face and soft tissues behind the eye. Retrobulbar abcess causes tearing and protrusion of the eye. Head and neck abscesses are extremely tender. Opening the mouth causes extreme pain.
Treatment in nearly all cases include incision and drainage of the abcess.
I would get my dog to a vet that would find the cause and effect a cure, and not waste my time and money with vets that are not effective. Ask around, ask your current vet for a reference to a specialist.
I hope you find a cause and a cure soon.
