Boston Terrier Litter of 10!!

Our boston terrier just had 10 pups, some very small, but all in seemingly good shape. Understandably she is exhausted, but apart from licking them, the mother is not really making an attempt to let them feed, and seeing that there are 10 of them, basically none is really latching. What do we do?

Wow 10! That's great. We had a litter of 9. Our female did not want to feed at first either. We just kept insisting and she began to like it. At first I held her down with both hands and told her with a sweet tone how beautiful she was and such a good momma and I scratched her where she likes it. She soon loved to feed her babies.

As for the babies not latching, get them close to her and put their mouth on her nipples. Squeeze a little and keep trying...try for a very long time.

Little puppies need nutrition fast so you may want to send someone to the pet supply store for newborn puppy bottles and formula if you didn't already get that in your whelping box supplies. If you did get it, be ready to use it but try to get them to feed first!

Stay there with the momma until you are sure she is taking good care of them.
