Boston Terrier Lip Swelling

by Matt
(Atlanta GA)

On the corner of my bostons lips,(about the last half inch of lip skin, where the top and bottom lips meet) He has some sort of irritation. The swelling is unnoticable unless looking for it, which i found after seeing him scratch his face. I have wiped it clean with a warm wet dish towel, getting some dead skin and tennis ball fuzz out of it.(its almost like a bad case of chapped lips) It does not appear to be sensitive to the touch, and does not look very bad, but i am worried all the same. My boston turns 14 at the end of this week!! he is in great health other than this lip probem, and failing eyesight. Please help if you have knowledge in what this could be.
thank you
Matt

Boston mouth irritation
by: Robbie

My female Boston (age 2) also recently developed mouth irritation around outer edges of her lips and underneath chin. Scratching lead to abrasion & some minor bleeding. My vet prescribed clavamox for 10 days with no visible results. Vet suggested allergies...to just about anything: Laundry soap, dish soap used to wash bowls, plastic of her water/food bowls, anything she may chew, even her dog food. Whew! We're in process of narrowing down possibilites. I'm starting to use prescription shampoo, changed her dishes from plastic to glass (outside ones too if your dog goes out). I will start washing her bedding etc without softener, and will change food over gradually. (She's picky!) I'll post if I have any results. Good luck.

My BT had this too and the vet gave her antibiotics and a spray.
