Boston Terrier Just Started Barking

We have a two year old Boston who just recently starting barking at people walking past the house, noises in the house and at people when they walk in the door. He has never been a barker before. In fact, prior to the past couple of weeks he hardly ever barked in his life. He is typicaly firnedly towards visitors and other dogs. My boyfriend went on vacation when this started and I wonder if it might be a protective act. Any insights would be much appreciated!

What worked for us...

Of course all bostons respond differently...but we found a can with coins worked great to snap our boston out of the barking phase. The minute she would start to bark we would shake the can and she would stop. I did notice after I was dogsitting a friends dog who barks ALL the time my boston started the behavior again...it only took a few shakes of the can to curb it. But I have seen my boston take on bad...or good...behaviors of dogs they are around and if you let them get away with it even once they will take the behavior and run with it!! Little buggers are too smart for their own good...Hope this helps...
