How often are they in heat? Also, how long does it normally last?

I have a 1 year old Boston Terrier and she is 2 weeks past her birthday and is now in her second heat. Her first heat was around 7 months and lasted over a month.

Heating period during pregnancy?
by: CarrieJ

My BT had puppies on July 19,2009, and were all sold by 9/14/09,all went well.

I understnad normal heating periods are aprox. every 6-7 months.

We took her to have her spayed this Sat.,10/31, but when they weighed her, a drop of blood fell on the scale and they said she was in heat and we would have to wait. Do we count the period during pregnancy and the 8 weeks with the puppies to compile the 6-7 months cycle time?
I just want to make sure nothing else is wrong with her although she is healthy and we just had all of her shots and medicines brought up to date.
Thank yo so much for any help.
CarrieJ.

Heat Cycles
by: Mary

While heat cycles vary from breed to breed and dog to dog, mostly you can expect two heats a year (every 6 months). They last anywhere from 7 to 14 days (some shorter, some longer). Most females will have their first heat in their first year of life and from thereafter about every 6 to 7 months.
