Boston Terrier Has Loose Stool After Boarding

Our 2yr old Boston just got back from being boarded at the Vet for 4 days. He has had loose stool for the last 2 days since he returned home.

We feed him Pedigree and he has always had nice firm "easy to pick up" stool.

Should I let him fast for a day to see if it gets better? I thought the vet told me they use Pedigree too so not sure if it was a change in food for those days. Just a little frustrated because I think it's hard for him to tell when it 's time to go and had had accidents inside twice.

Any suggestions to firm it up before we can get to vet on Monday?

I have a 12 year old Boston girl, and we have also had this problem. After hundreds of dollars spent, we figured out that it is separation anxiety. These dogs truly look at you as mom or dad, and leaving them alone or as a border, you will have these problems. It is just they love you so much, it makes them sick to be left for long periods of time. Also it can cause bloody stools.

Certainly withhold food for 12 hours or more; then reintroduce some i/d food from Science Diet available at your vet's. It might be due to nerves while you were away. As long as he's up to date on all his vaccinations, I wouldn't worry much. One of my BTs started this a few weeks ago; no cause found, but she responded well to the canned version i/d (which I keep on hand for just this kind of issue) and now she's back to normal. Reintroduce kibble after another 24 hours with the canned food, then gradually move to straight kibble.

If you don't have access to i/d food, you can serve some boiled rice and hamburg (not fried, boiled and drained) or maybe some boiled chicken.
