^^If I did that, my dog would eat 10x what he should eat. I put down about 1 cup of food in the evenings and he eats it ALL in about three minutes, as fast as he can. Then he goes poking around in his brother's bowl! I guess different things work for different dogs.

Our Boston Terrier book said to feed a puppy in this manner:

Give him a bowl full of food in the morning and set the timer. Let him eat 15 minutes and then pull the bowl away. You do the same thing in the evening. Then after a few feedings you get a feel for how much they eat.

Puppies will increase the amount they eat as they grow but by the time they are about 8-12 weeks old they pretty much have a set amount.

Our Bostons are 2, 3, and 4 years old. Two eat 1/2 cup of food twice a day and the other one eats a full cup of food twice a day. (She's a little bigger and she is more hyper.)
