Boston Terrier Eye Problems

Bella
I adopted my 2nd B.T. through petfinder.com from a woman who rescues dogs of any small breed. She had found Bella after Hurricane Katrina, so her history and/or breeding is unknown. While Bella has been a perfect addition to our family, she has had a few health problems--namely, bladder stones (for which she had surgery to remove) and most recently, cataracts.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me understand a little more about the breed and these eye problems...
We have had a consultation with the vet school at LSU and they have said Bella is a perfect candidate for surgery because the cataracts are still soft; however, B.T.s tend to have complications after such surgery, such as glaucoma. Has anyone had any experience with this surgery or know anything about it?
If you have had experience, particularly recently, can you tell me how much it costs? This seems to be very expensive, and yet I feel that I need to do what I can to take care of God's creatures...
Any information at all would be very helpful, thanks!!!
