My boston Bella always scratched her ears, so I took her to the vet. (She also has demodex mange but that's another story). My vet told me she had an infection in her ears. He put her on antibiotics and sent me home with two cleaning solutions. You have to be careful when bathing bostons not to get water in their ears because it can infect them. Now when I bath her I make sure not to get any water in them and dry them after wards. My problem is I have to bribe Bella with treats bc she wont let me near her ears lol! Another thing I also do is scrap out any wax in her ears - it looks brown just remover it with your finger or a napkin.

Ear smell and itching by: Anonymous
My 1.5 yr old Boston has been diagnosed with yeast in her ear at least 3 times since she was a tiny pup. It smells very distinctly, causes discomfort and usually produces a lot of brown gunk. I've taken her to the vet every time and it costs a fortune for me to hear the same diagnosis I know is coming. They said some Bostons, mine being one of them, have tiny ear canals and it's difficult for any water that gets in to evaporate. Creates the perfect environment for yeast to grow. Anyway, the solution is meds. Drops in ear or ointment, daily for a period of a week or so. No long term damage from going untreated for a little while, which was what I was worried about. Just bring your pup to a vet! Good luck.

I found in a natural solution book the recipe of 1 part clear vinegar 1 part alcohol 1 part water Mix together and use dropped and drop 4 to 5 drops In ear let it stay in there for about 30 seconds while in there massage the base of the ear to help it.. then let the pet shake their head and use cotton ball to clean the ear.
I used it and it worked great.

Yes, there are, and you can get it at the pet stores; however, it may be ear mites, and that requires medication from the vet's. If you use an ear wash, I would use a big wad of cotton to wipe out the ear.
