My Boston had this problem
by: Anonymous

My Boston was dragging her rear around on the carpet. We took her to the vet and had her anal glands relieved. It seemed to work, but she was back at it soon enough. We had watched the operation and copied it at home. It worked out ok and didn't smell so bad like people say.
But she would just keep on with the carpet rubbing.
Turns out it is because her (we call it) nub, where a tail should be is short. As she had gained some weight from ding spoiled and fed well she developed a cavity around the nub that needs to be cleaned out periodically with a Q tip and some rubbing alcohol.

Anal glands
by: Anonymous

My BT has anal gland problems and I have to take her to the vet every month to get them expressed. A couple years ago I didn't realize they were full and one actually tore through the skin and she had to have surgery - and obviously it was very painful for her. Don't let it go too long before having it expressed!

Dragging Butt

All dogs do this when their anal gland is full and needs to be drained. Some glands will pop on their own, but others need help. Some groomer will include and agp (anal gland popping) with a groom. I would call a groomer and see if this is something they can do. I can tell you from experience, the smell is horrible!
