Boston Terrier Constantly Licking (9yo)

by Christy
(Portland)

My Boston Terrier has to lick everything. He will go into his crate and just stand there licking the back of the crate. He licks all of his blankets, as well as the floor or even my leg if he is standing next to me. Is this a normal thing for Bostons'?

Annoying behaviour
by: Anonymous

Ours licks everything in site and it's very annoying! She also vibrates, whines, and is very clingy! I wouldn't recommend getting a boston whatsoever! Definitely be our last.

Constantly licks his paws
by: Dana

My 6 year old bt has always licked his paws until they are soaking wet! My vet told me it was an allergy that's why he licks like that. When I give him allergy pills, it does seem to get better.

LICKING!!!!
by: Margot's grammie

Our 6 y.o. female is a constant licker as well, but not as bad as some of these I'm reading about! Our main complaint is that she obsessively licks herself during the night. Of course she sleeps with us. It sounds disgusting and it is very annoying. She will sometimes stop when I gently pinch her mouth closed. It sounds like it's just one of those things a Boston does...

Licking Us Insane
by: Mark & Jackie

Our dog Sadie is a constant licker. She is always licking our hands face and anytime we move our hands she just wants to lick lick lick! We have tried everything to get her to stop licking but she just keeps on licking - she takes a licking and keeps on ticking! In fact she's licking us right now and she gets more and more aggressive and then starts digging at us with her paws. Then we usually have to tap her behind to get her to stop. But that is only good for a minute or two and then she's back to licking again! We can't even talk to her - she never listens - she just likes to lick lick lick lick lick lick lick! Please help us!!

Licking

My 6 year old male licks everything, too. He's always been a licker! Yuk! If I tell him No, he will stop but only to start up again at some point. He's a lovable dog, just a licker!

licking and digging my face
by: Stella

I have just acquired a 2 year old who has been abused. She is an obsesive licker also, she licks everything. I have given her several cloth toys which she licks and EATS THEM. The same with the ropes, she licks them, sucks on them and destroys them by eating them. It is the soft material. If I have any clothing soft like that she will try to eat it also (after licking it) havent figured out how to break her. She is obsessed with licking my face, which wouldn't be so bad but she takes both her paws and digs at my face at the same time Its very painfull how would you stop this. I have tried no. I try to keep her from licking my face, I have sprayed her with a water bottle..she stops for the moment but 10 minutes later shes right back

Licking

I have two Bostons that can't control their licker!
One just likes to lick me. The other one licks everything...even the couch. It's gross when she licks the bed and then it gets sloppy wet! I cut strips of fabric...about 2 inches wide and 6-8 inches long. I tie them together and give them to her to lick. I also take those mismatched socks and tie a knot in the middle (that way I know they are a dog toy and not one of my good socks). She likes to lick that too. When she starts licking the couch I just tell her NO and she stops. Then I look for one of her lick toys and give that to her.

She's pretty weird But I love her!
