As you can see from the email I received below, people have very definite opinions about Boston Terrier Colors!
I own two pet-quality, black & white Boston Terriers, who are the inspiration for this site. My purpose is to provide information, resources, and a community for fellow Boston lovers. I am not a breeder, handler, seller, or broker of Boston Terriers of ANY color - just a pet owner! I never dreamed that by posting informational descriptions and pictures of non-traditional Boston Terrier colors, that I'd receive personal attacks like the one below!
The content of the following email conversation regarding Boston Terrier colors has not been edited in any way other than to remove the personal email addresses of the respective parties in accordance with our privacy policy. Even the misspellings and incorrect grammar remain.

You are lie ing to the public by putting a link to the BTCA, You are not a member....you are letting people think that the BTCA approves of all your inbred colors. Shame on you!! You did NOT get permission to link the website. Perhaps the BTCA website should put all this on there website about YOU. Nowhere on my site do I claim to be a member of the BTCA or that they approve of color bostons. I have provided a link to their website so that visitors can obtain additional information about Boston Terriers. In fact, I point out that the colored bostons are NOT part of the AKC standard.
Thank you for taking time to write.
Message received: So then, you must be a broker. Someone who does not care about any breed you are selling. Now I understand the other breeds available. This is a way for you to make MONEY...
Just remember...you reap what you sow...........

Also, did you read the last line of the BTCA website? it reads as follows:
Linking to the BTCA Web Site requires written permission from the Web Master or the BTCA Board of Directors. Thank you for pointing that out. I will gladly remove all links to the BTCA website immediately.** It's unfortunate that I won't be able to link to the BTCA - I'd love to include their position as well.
if this is true, then why are you showing Reds, blues, and all other unexceptible colors? You are promoting people buying these color of dogs. Haveing a site to help people understand Bostons is a good thing. Showing pictures of off colored Bostons is unthinkable. These are dogs that have been so inbred, or mixed, to get these colors.

In the interest of presenting both sides of the Boston Terrier colors issue, and so that I in no way misrepresent either side through paraphrasing their positions, I invite you to check out these two sites which represent opposing views regarding Boston Terrier colors:
~ Visit the BTCA (Boston Terrier Club of America - AKC parent club) to see their position against colored Bostons. I would provide the link here to make it easier to find, but out of respect for their 'no linking policy' noted above, I have not.
~ Visit the ACBTC - All Color Boston Terrier Club (in process of becoming the official national club of the UCA) for information about Boston Terrier colors.

I am appalled by the negative reaction to your site. Off-standard colours are found in most, if not all, breeds. I did not see this as a promotion of incorrect colours, simply information. The colours outside the Standard all come from the original crosses used to create the Boston Terrier in the early days and in no way suggest mixed breeding. Standards change, too.
At one time the all-white head was desired, now it's not. I for one was very interested in seeing all the non-standard colours. Perhaps the reds at least may either be recognized or considered a new breed or variety one day. If Great Dane breeders can accept Boston-marked dogs, maybe Boston breeders some day will accept different colours, too.
I am not a Boston owner, breeder, broker, exhibitor or anything else. I just like Bostons, no matter what colour they are. I do not promote breeding against the Standard, but I recognize that odd colours can still surface in almost any breed. Pretending they aren't there doesn't help! Education does.

p.s., I found out the black and white was once disallowed and all white was allowed in the early standard. Things do change.
ALL Boston enthusiasts who love their dogs are welcome to contribute articulate, thoughtful, and contstructive dialog to the interactive pages of this site (e.g., FAQs, photo gallery, etc.). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and is encouraged to share information, but please, no personal attacks. Visit the BTCA and ACBTC sites and decide for yourself.

** I previously had two links to the BTCA website. One was a text link (simply titled: "Boston Terrier Club of America") to their home page which appeared on my links page. The other was a link to their health information page on cataracts. At no time did I claim to be a member of the BTCA or display their "member seal".
As of July 23, 2008 all links to the BTCA site were removed in cooperation with their 'no linking without permission' policy (unenforceable as it is). This site is in NO WAY affiliated with the BTCA.
