Boston Terrier Backing Away from Owner

I go to pat my Boston and backs away from me. Is there anything I can do to break him of this?

Use treats

Use treats to get them into the habit of doing what you want them to do. Mine always wants to play and is stubborn so I just get a treat when I want her.

backing away

Did your dog ever have another owner? I would present the back of my hand, lower than his head, so he can sniff it and know it's me, then move from there into a patting situation. If he still backs up, don't try to rub his head, try another part of his body.

No he just back away or ducks his head when you try and rub his head. The vet said he may be a shy type dog. After I put my hand out palm down he will lick my hand and then let me give him a pat.
He is two years old.
Thank you!

Mine does the same thing. It's usually because he wants to lead me somewhere else to get something he wants. He will come to me and sit down. When I go to pet him he will run away to the shelf where I keep the laser pointer. Other times, it may be that he runs to his food bowl.

Is your boston asking you for something?
