We just put up a live Christmas tree, we did not have last year, and our 3 y/o BT has whelps over his entire body. Has anyone ever had this problem before and what can I do?

Boston Terrier allergy to live christmas trees
Allergies to real christmas trees... by: Anonymous
My family & I just got our new boston Terrier pup last week, This was the first christmas we've had with her & we expirenced the same exact problem, our pup began itching a lot & then I noticed some hives on her head & back, she then became really lethargic & didnt want to play or move at all, even when we tried putter her down & playing with her she would just lay right back down. after reading this we immidiatly took down our christmas tree (we took it down the day after christmas) I wet her face & body with a luke warm wash cloth & within a half hour she became playful & spunky again. The hives have gone down dramatically & the itching has stopped, I am so thankful for this post! What a weird thing, but we have now decided that we are joining the "fake Christmas tree club" for next year! Thanks!!

Hives and allergies by: Linda Galway/TurnerME
As an immediate remedy, you can give your dog 1 25-mg. pill of Benadryl or a generic form. Also, give your dog a bath in plain lukewarm to cool water, and if that's not possible, wet a face cloth and just press it over his skin for the cooling factor. The whelts (hives) should start to subside within a half hour. It's possible the hives were caused by some other factor, but you won't be certain until you either get him checked by a veterinarian allergist OR they go away when you remove the tree. I can tell you I would put the tree outside immediately and clean up the area and see if it makes any difference. If he clears up,bring the tree in again. If the whelts reappear, you can pretty much point to the tree as the culprit. Good luck.

Allergies by: Mary
+ I have never heard of this but there are some pups that are allergic to the strangest things.
I see that the best remedy would be to get a fake tree and take that one down. See the vet first though and perhaps he can give your puppy some medication or shots.
My sister was allergic to pine also...we always had fake trees growing up...it's still Christmas even with a plastic tree. :)
