All puppies chew until they are about 2 years of age. Some more than others because they cut teeth longer.
These are like babies, if their gums hurt it feels better when they bite down on something.
I have found if you get the puppy a toy from the first get go. A bed and a crate. If they start to chew on something, take it away and say NO! hand them their toy in place of the other item, and pet them and say ok here you go or something like that. If you show your puppy love when you give the toy, they will come to understand it is ok to chew on that. And say no! when you take other items from them. They will come to understand it is not ok to chew on anything else.
I use a crate for their bed , it gives them a place to feel safe and content. I place a small bed in there just big enough for the puppy to snuggle with his or her toy.
If I am away from home for a while, (work or shopping) I put papper a small bowl of food and water inside the crate and cover the crate like you might a bird cage. The news paper is spread out so the puppy can potty and water and food to eat and drink. Just incase it takes me longer than I expected. Always make sure the crate is large enough for the puppy to have room to play.
