Advice on getting a second dog

I got a rescue-ish BT about two months ago. She's about 2.5 years old, fixed female. She's great with people and my two cats. She doesn't like to play with toys, and isn't really interested in playing with other dogs. She likes to play with my cats, but they get sick of her and she still wants to play. I've tried introducing her to other dogs -- in neutral locations, in my house and yard, and in the other dogs' houses and yards -- and she is just not interested in playing with the other dogs. I've thought about getting a second dog for her, but I wonder if she just prefers being an only dog. Any thoughts or advice?

I have a BT, Pearl, and she is three years old. Female and fixed as well. She is very energetic in spurts, as most BTs are, and very loyal and loving. Upon rescuing her, I bought a book so I could read about the breed. Pearl is my first BT. One characteristic rang true through the entire book. BTs are "people dogs". They are the most happy when side by side, or playing with, their owners. If as an owner of a BT, you find that your BT wants nothing more than to be beside you, in your lap, or having you take part in play time with them & their favorite toy, all the time, and you think the solution may be to get another BT to keep your first BT company, you will only find that in doing this, you will then have TWO eager, loving BTs vying for your attention. BTs rarely appreciate a second dog in the home either. I read that rarely will a BT "play" with toys alone, but will have a ball playing with you and their favorite toys. Maybe, you should try spending more "one-on-one" time playing and interacting with your baby more than you are. Also, from all that I have read, I must suggest that you do not get another dog of any breed for your BT. I don't think he or she will be very interested. Good luck!
