8wk Male Boston Terrier Pup Biting

Hi, I have a 8wk male boston terrier pup who has a tendency of getting a little too rough & bites my older Boston Terrier. When I pick him up to tell him "No Biting" he growls & tries to bite me. I thought tapping him on the nose & by telling him "No" would work but it only upsets him more. What do you recommend I do so he knows who's the boss?

I know what you mean. We have a 7 month old Boston girl and after we brought her home at 8 weeks, she "mouthed" like you wouldn't believe. The kids would complain, and we were wondering what was going on. We tried time outs, holding her mouth shut and replacing our fingers and limbs for toys and other objects. One day it just stopped. It was not a gradual thing she grew out of. It was almost like a light bulb went off in her head and she just stopped biting. She is so lovable now that I assume her behavior was nothing short of just being a puppy. I wouldn't accept aggression and biting but playful exploring should not alarm you just yet. Hope things work out for you.

I suggest you (gently)flip your pup onto his back (You can cradle him in your arms.) Keep your eyes glued to his and DO NOT LOOK AWAY until he does. While you are doing this, say, in a deep, low voice (like a growl would be) "No bite!" Once he looks away and relaxes his body, slowly bring him back into a neutral position and tell him what a good dog he is being.Looking away and relaxing is his way of giving up and acknowledging you are the boss.
