Sleeping Puppy
by: Anonymous

My 6 month old pup sleeps allllll day. It is very important to a puppy's growing cycle for them to sleep....just like human babies. You wouldnt expect a 6 month old human baby to be awake all day long, but to sleep and wake up in short amounts of time. My pup will wake up for abou 10-40 mins about 4-6 times a day and sleeps the rest. Stress can couse a puppy to sleep more often than normal, but stress is rare in puppies, it happens more in dogs that are unsocialized, so make sure you take your pup in pubic whenever you can! Good luck!

Our new (two weeks now) Boston/Pug mix is about 6 months old and sleeps a LOT. When he's awake, though, he's very vigorously playful (loves to fetch). But! When we took him to the vet for the first time, just to have him checked out, he virtually slept through the entire exam and the vet was sort of puzzled at how placid he seemed to be. He also slept through the car ride. But when we got him home he was once again playful. So, my theory was, in his case, that he was stressed out by the vet and the car and went to sleep to escape the stress. Like human babies sometimes do. Maybe your new pup is reacting to a strange new environment?

Still, best to have a vet take a look.

Sleepy Head

Some puppies sleep more than others. She is still a little baby and needs her sleep. But you also need to make sure she isn't sick. The vet can tell for sure. It would be good for you to visit the vet and ease your anxiety.

Our puppies are now 1 yr, 2yr, and 3yrs old and they still sleep A LOT. Of course when we come home they run around for about 30 minutes and then calm down. On Saturdays, they get up in the morning to eat and play about 10 minutes, then sleep for about 2-3 hours, then play for 30 minutes, then sit in laps for about an hour, then go outside for about 20 minutes or less and come in pooped out! A Boston Terrier is like that, they play like the dickens for a very short time and then tucker out very quickly and have to rest up to be able to play again. Some, of course are way more hyper than others. One of ours is a lap dog and another one walks around sniffing everything and doesn't really want to stay in a lap very long.

You could try to take your puppy's temperature, but I leave that up to the vet. :)
