6 month old Boston Terrier Still Not Potty Trained

Hello. I have had this Boston since she was 7 wks old. I have two other dogs, one big & one tiny & thought that watching them go outside, on their schedule would greatly benefit the Boston, so at 4.5 mos old, I stopped using the crate & started allowing the Boston to stay out so she could get on schedule with the other two dogs. Big Mistake! Every Single Day I come home to pee & poo in the house, even though I leave her outside for 20 mins in the morning before I leave for work. I don't feed her in the morning, but normally one of the other dogs has a small amt of kibble or the cat has some in the bottom of their bowls. She eats whatever she can find! I've never had a dog that was a bigger pig than this one! She Never used to use the bathroom in her crate, so I KNOW she CAN Hold it for the time I'm gone if she wants to. I'm gone for about 6-7 hrs. She'll even go to the bathroom with me here at home. She WILL NOT let me know when she needs to potty. This dog Never whimpers or makes a peep at the door. I got her in spring & the back door was open a lot more often then as the weather was soo nice & now that it's boiling hot & muggy outside, the door is closed & the air is on. I fear I've ruined her! I'm going to hang some bells from the back door handle & try to teach her to nudge them when she needs to go potty but I need more help than that for this dog. If there's a rug in my home, she'll pee on it! She has even peed on my bed, after going out to potty for 15 mins before turning in!! When she poos, it's Not by the back door where all dogs go out to potty, she goes by the Front door! This pup's sister lives next door with a family member & they are having the Exact-Same-Problem with their puppy. HELP!

Peeing and Pooping
by: ChristiWilson

Our Boston Terrier, Dylan is nearly 4 months old and his housebreaking is not going well. He is being crated about 630am until about 230pm daily with a puppy pad. He is peeing on it but not pooping on it. When my husband gets home and lets him out of the crate he will go poop and pee in the house even after he takes him out for 20-30 minutes and he wont poop outside at all. He is using it all over the house! HELP. Please.

potty problems

Dogs do become potty trained by watching other dogs. You must train her. She absolutely needs to back in her crate and start from scratch. Not all dogs will cry, sit at the door etc. Each dog is different and the owner needs to learn body language of the dog. I have 6 dogs and all are different letting me know. I have one that will sit in front of me and stare while another will go to the door. Bostons are not the easiest dogs to potty train yet they are very smart. They are also very food motivated as you are finding out. As far as re training she cannot have any freedom once so ever. This means crate when you are not home. When you are home leash her to your side. Take her out every hour when you are home. You cannot send her out on her own. You must physically go out with her. Point to the ground and say 'go potty. Eventually she will learn and go on command. Praise her when she goes. If she goes she can earn 15 minutes of off leash free time in the same room you are in. If you stay consistent for the next 3 weeks she will get it. If you don't she will continue to use your house as a bathroom. Potty training has nothing to do with how long she can hold it in the crate. Dogs are designed to not go where they unless forced to. Always remember dogs only learn in black and white. One more very important thing to remember. Only correct her if you catch her in the act. If she went on the floor and you didn't see her then don't bother trying to scold her. It means nothing to her. I have clients say all of the time 'oh she knew no she doesn't. All the dog knws is your angry. You only have a window of 3 seconds to correct a dog.
