15 week old Boston w/runny nose.. Opinions on nasal surgery please..

My 15 week old boston terrier Luci has had a runny nose since I brought her home at 8 weeks old. At first it had a hint of green and but went to clear within a day when I took her to the vet. It has since continued to run and has little bubbles in it sometimes. She snorts and snarfs alot. (I know many bostons do, but she does it a lot more than my 11 month old ever did).

She is also much skinnier than my older boston was at the same age. My vet didn't seem to be too concerned about it, but did say that when I take to in to be spayed next month that she could do a surgery that opens up her nasal passage. Has anyone else ever had this done to their boston? Would you recommend it or not? Is this something I should be concerned about or let it be? I don't want to do any unnecessary procedures on her unless I know they will help her. Your suggestions and comments would help me out a lot. Thank you!

narrow nostrils
by: helen

Hi, I have just had my boston's nostrils widened. She was not having any of the problems that I have read in any of the comments on here. She just used to take the odd laboured breath, but she had narrow/flat nostrils which are not good. So I opted to have it done to save on any future problems.
Well, I am over the moon with the outcome. It's corrected the slight problem straight away. The nostrils take a little bit longer to heal but if you saw her, bar the fact she has a great pair of nostrils, you would not think she had had an op as she was playing and exercising as normal the next day.

Hey guys,

I was the first comment on this board many moons ago. My little girl was assessed by 2 vets, one of which made the comment that she had very narrow nasal passages and that we should consider the surgery. As it is pretty invasive I held off. I am glad I did. Now this was purely my personal choice, I am not trying to sway anyone else.
My little girl had a sinus infection the day we brought her home, yes her nose ran when we went for walks and she showed some difficulty but just like any person does as well. My nose runs if it's windy and cold too.
My entire family has bostons from the same breeder. One from a previous litter and my parents have my girls sister. All three of them have completely different noses. One snorts just by breathing, mine doesn't even snore.

All three of my family's girls are living normal lives, without any unusual complications. None of them have had this surgery. I wish you all luck and would like to hear how your bostons have made out with the surgery.

Narrow Nostrils
by: Dave

Just brought home our new 8 week old Boston Terrier today. What a sweetheart. We didn't notice how small his nostrils really are until we got him home. He does snort quite a bit, which I hear is normal but we're going to get him to the vet in a couple of weeks for his 10 week shots and get him checked then. Any feedback is appreciated.

15week old Boston w/runny nose...Opinions on nasal surgery please
by: Daphne's Mom

My Boston has very narrow nasal passages. As soon as it was brought to my attention,by my very trusted vet,I was much more observant of her behavior. Snorting and coughing while eating, stopping to calm down and catch her breath when playing hard, and blowing bubbles out of her nose. At 12 weeks, her surgery is being scheduled. I don't consider it anything more than what is best for my dog, her appearance will not be changed, it will just give her a better quality of life and maybe help extend it, as her breathing will not be as labored and not put an unneeded strain on her heart.

nasal surgery
by: Anonymous

Hello,

I just recently purchased a boston puppy at 6 weeks of age as well, and she seems to be sniffling a little bit, her sister did the same. At her first vet visit, that was something our vet mentioned was that her nostrils were quite narrow, and that is definitely something to discuss when she is ready to be spayed. And I got to thinking about it, I will ask around to see who can do it, because if she's already having a few problems at such a young age, I might as well help her out now, then deal with this as a older age. My thoughts are maybe help her out in the long run.
