11 Year old Boston - Surgery or Not

by Lauren
(Georgia)

My 11 year old darling male Boston has a lump in his mouth along the jaw line. I took him to the vet and wants to do surgery to biopsy the growth. I am unsure if this is something that I want to put him through - the lump does not cause pain and hasn't effected his quality of life. I am really torn over what to do.

If it is Cancer I am not sure I would want to put him through the treatments. I would rather go the "hospice" route due to his age.

If it isn't cancer, is it worth putting him through the pain?

Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, for my own peace of mind, I would get the biopsy. Just to know exactly what is going on and what the future has to hold. I would be absolutely heart broken if one of my babies was facing this scare. I just feel if you are aware then you can take any precautions to help the little guy.

I wish you the best. I know how much a Boston can mean to a person. My little girl is my life!

Oh I am so sorry that your baby has a lump in his mouth. I know what you mean by not wanting to put him through any pain. Surgery can be hard due to the anesthesia. He is already older and it may be best doing the "hospice" thing. Just make sure you keep in contact with your vet and he has OK'd your preference. There are many vets out there and a second opinion is always good too.
