10 year old Boston Terrier not himself

My Boston is 10 yrs old and in the last couple of months he has not been his normal self. He used to be very playful and full of life, now he doesnt want to do anything anymore he just lays around and sleeps all the time. Could this just be him getting older or something more serious?
