10 week old Boston Terrier Making Yacking sounds

by Sophie Baby
(FL )

i recently became an owner of a beautiful female Boston Terrier.
Sophie has been yacking , sounds like she is trying to cough out some type of flem from her lungs, but i took her to the vet and the vet said her lungs were in perfect condition.. he said she might be suffering of some tyoe of respitory problem.. and so he gave her some antibiotics.. her apetite is perfect and is so is her energy level... but these sounds have me very concerned... has anybody else had this problem.. can anybody relate? if so any advice.
thank you

Sudden respiratory problem
by: Anonymous

My Nikki started this hacking, wheezing inthe middle of the night. Nothing comes up but she is labored and raspy in her coughing. She doesn't appear to have a fever. Only thing I can think of is it's been damp and cold for days now. Maybe it's a cold... but I worry what to do about it.

kennel cough

My 12 week old female Boston has Kennel cough and does that awful hacking sound as well. She is on meds from the vet. I too have to hold her up right and pat her on the back to get her to clear it out. I think holding her upright helps. My 2 yr old male has a cold right now due to the cold weather so between the hacking and the reverse sneezing there is a lot going on. A lot of love and patients with them and hopefully with the meds they both will be doing better soon. Your not alone with having your dog have those symptoms. Good luck.

Coughing up mucus
by: Anonymous

I have 2 Boston Terriers... My little girl, Sami Nicole, just turned 2 and my little boy, Chase Michael, will be 2 in November. They both occasionally will cough/spit up thick white mucus and I know not only scares me but scares them, as well.
I found your link by searching to get answers myself due to my little boy this morning collapsed/passed out when his air flow was blocked and he could no longer breathe due to he couldn't cough out all the mucus. Thank God, out of fear, I stuck my hand in his mouth which opened up an air way for him. After a few minutes he was back to his old self. It was the scariest moment I have almost every experienced.
Sami and Chase are my babies, outside of my 25 yr old daughter, and I can't imagine ever losing either one of them. After my experience this morning I am now needing answers to find out what I can do if this ever happens again to either one of them since it apparently is common in Boston Terriers to have this problem and from my understanding due to their face being flatter than most dogs.

Though I may not have been able to assist you with answers...I thought I'd share my story so you knew it was common in Boston Terriers and you're not alone.

Yacking
by: Mary

The vet would know if it was kennel cough. If he doesn't then get a new vet. The medicine your vet gave you will help if it is some ailment.

Sometimes Bostons do the "backwards sneezy" thing. You can tell the difference because they usually stop that when you tell them to or pick them up.

Cough
by: Charlotte

It's kennel cough, get her to the vet. I had to sleep (try to) with mine ready to pat her back to help bring up the mucus. It's really hard on a Boston, good luck
