1 year old Boston Terrier has big scratching problems!!

I have had my Boston for about 10 months now and has been wonderful but loads of health problems. When we got her she had coccidia and was easily fixed with some medicine and she was fine. We then took her in to the vet because she was scratching the back of her ear so bad that she was bleeding. They said she might have allergies or an ear infection. They also said that she had a build up of yeast on her skin so they gave us a shampoo. Her ears were pretty dirty so after some ear cleaning products she was good as new. Now my little girl has been scratching mainly her neck, front arm pits and somehow the side of her front paw so bad that she is bleeding again. Tomorrow is the vet and I'm just wondering what kind of answers make since. Some weeks are better then others but she still hasn't kicked this scratching issue. Anyone have any further information that would be great. Thanks!!!

ITCH problems
by: Anonymous

We have a 7 year old french Bulldog who also has cycles of itching. After several series of prednisone (which is very hard on his health)but it worked and the itch would go away...but the itch returned in just a little while.
We started using shampoo and conditioner that contains oatmeal (sold on 1-800petmeds.com) and that also helped.
Our vet finally told us that he probably had food allergies, so we needed to experiment and find out just what he was eating could give him a flare-up.
Within a very short time we discovered that he had an allergy to BEEF......his dry dog food and treats we had been giving him all contained beef.
He really loves the rawhide chews....they are also a beef product. We now give him ONLY CHICKEN. We discovered that the "Chef Michaels" chicken is his favorite. On a lesser degree, we also discovered that he has a problem with cheese. Again, many dog foods and especially dog treats contain cheese......His favorite item to snitch had been "CHEETOS"....we have replaced these with Stauffers Animal Cookies.
It was a little trying until we found out what was causing his skin problems, but it was well worth the effort. His scratching drove us nuts...as it had to bother him too. And when he would scratch enough to break the skin, we had to be worried about skin infections.
I hope this may help you. Fortunately our one year old "Boggle"....Boston Terrier/Beagle mix doesn't seem to have ANY skin/itch problems.
